Take your data backup to DVD Backup data to dvd using in built DVD Backup and Copy software. Data backup to dvd is common thing now a day. Now most of the computers come with built-in dvd burner. This built-in dvd burner enable you to backup your hard drive to another data medium with a DVD data and copy software.
The advantage of dvd data backup is, DVD can hold 4.7 GB data on single side and 9.4 GB data on both sides. And if you compress this data you can store even more data.
If you opt for both CD and DVD burner make sure that it has two different lasers that work in different wavelengths. Since CD and DVD have different track size.
Types of DVD player DVD+RW
DVD+RW is read and writable with 4.7 GB capacities on each side. Obviously you will get 9.4 GB capacities on both sides. Currently the DVD+RW standard is mainly supported by Dell, Sony, HP, Ricoh, and Philips. It can enable you to play DVD created in a DVD+RW drive of some of the currently available DVD-ROM drives.
DVD-RW and DVD-R
Yamaha, Richo, and Pioneer have developed these standards. With the DVD+R standard you can only write on the DVD disc one time but with DVD-RW you can get 1000 times increased capacity, which is more than sufficient for taking DVD backup. But the disadvantage is, you cannot take multiple backups on a DVD-RW disc.
DVD-RAM
The DVD-RAM standard supports a special cartridge for recording and playing. It's not compatible with the other standards. DVD-RAM has the range of capacities from 2.4 GB to 9.4 GB. It can supports only to DVD-RAM players. I will not recommend this standard for dvd backup and copy purposes because of these limitations. You must go for DVD player that supports both standards.
You must have compatibility for DVD disc on the drive and have a DVD backup and copy program installed that can backup the files that you want to backup frequently. It enables you to take a full backup to one or multiple DVDs from your hard drive with a DVD backup and copy software.
My recommendation===>>>Always go for burner that works with both CD and DVD.
